Dear Readers;
Charlottetown has a new Farmers Market in the Confederation Court Mall. We have started with ten stalls and let me tell you MacAskill did a beautiful job building them.
Let me tell you honestly…the foot traffic is moving at a snails pace…maybe even slower…..
I feel that we have done everything we can to provide product…lights and still NO ACTION!!! Ah well..everyone knows that this time of year all the shops are simply living off the December sales. So we will see.
Perhaps this is the sign of the economic downturn that Canadians refuse to acknowledge. I see stores closing right…left and center. Pat sells honey right next to me and she was saying that it is sad that the stores are closing. I think that these big stores are not sustainable ..where as outdoor farmers markets have always been in style. Farmers Markets are NOT a new age trend. They were and are the way people like to sell and how the general population like to buy their produce and other things.Markets are alive with people doing…. selling….people bartering..laughter..bumping into each other…chatting with friends..smelling smells…being alive! You get to know where your food is coming from…hopefully locally and organic.
Until next time,
Lal
